Summary of 2020

In the midst of 2020, with the Coronavirus, I, like everyone else around the world, was stuck at home. I took advantage of this opportunity and conducted research on what was happening in the world, then began writing from the perspective of a 16-year-old, slowly opening her eyes to the world. This summary isn’t quite unbiased, my approach was through a liberal girl in a conservative household, explaining what she saw to someone younger than her years later. I present to you my summary of 2020.

Sit down, let me explain this to you. Heh. How old are you? Ah ok. You see Iwas 16 and a half when the world went to ass. There was everything to mend or repair, but no one had a care. We tried everything we could, but then became silenced by an anarchic government under Mr. Donald J. Trump. Boy, we were in a slump. We tried to get something, you know what we got? Yeah, we got nothing. I know you know how to count 1 through 12, yeah, the 12 months of the year, 2020 was here. We claimed this was going to be our year, yeah, the best we’ve ever seen, it’s a time for new beginnings, and ridding of all the shenanigans. Until 123. January, February, March. That’s when it all went down. January was fine, except World War three man, we thought we were free. To top it off, the world was on fire, destroying our empire like it was out of style. The death of a legend. That’s just New Year's bad luck, right? Wrong. February, here we go. A new disease is stirring; it seems that it’s recurring. It got a new name, ever heard of COVID-19? Shootings were at an all-time high, and this virus reached an epidemic, hitting Middle Eastern countries. Canada left a landslide with people stranded. March… ugh. People were starting to worry, so they scurried. This is when the world was going to change. Nothing is stopping, seniors were starting to get concerned about their graduation, but um .. I’m getting ahead of myself. On March 10, Italy was the first country to implement a nationwide lockdown. This isn’t just a virus; that’s something academic. It turned into a pandemic. The presidential race was still in place, Ms. Warren dropped the case. March 12. The biggest news yet NBA postpones its season for their reasons. March 13th Lockdown. While there’s more in this month. We must move on. April. Economies started crashing like it was their passion. The cases on the globe surpass 1 million. The death rate was shaking, and hearts were breaking. alien invasion, killer hornets enter the nation, it seems like there’ll be no salvation. May… three months into our quarantine. People have gone to try and find their fortune. We haven’t been back, everyone’s online, tryna get through this time. Everyone feels bad for the class of 2020; they graduated via Zoom, and schools said See you soon. No one thought of the class of 2021. The world felt bad, so these seniors' graduation had a celebrity invitation to a presentation. Come June, everyone is saying we are the crazy generation. We’re the reasons for the country's suffocation. Riots go up, innocent black people are served on a platter, like their lives just don’t matter. They’ve always mattered. We shouldn’t be hearing “I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.” Our cops have cried since they’ve been tried. July through September is just a blur, as if nothing occurred. October things aren’t getting sober. It’s a testy environment as a selection for the election is sent out. A rock legend, Eddie Van Halen, is dead. In November, the election is here, and some people might be in tears. Joe Biden wins, Trump says that’s a sin. He went to court saying the votes were false. I’m pretty sure he lost. In December, we were all ready for it to be over. Man, it’s 2021, we thought we had won, but it’s been a year there hasn’t been a cure. It feels like it’s been so long. It was March 13, 2020, when the students heard the news. School was canceled for two weeks at first, we were ecstatic till our seasons were postponed, you know how many games we were gonna miss? We were anxious for it to be up then we were told in April, we wouldn’t be going back till May 15th. We were praying and begging Governor Roy Cooper to do something super. Our prayers hadn’t been heard as we’re coming up on the first anniversary of being out of school. The class of 2021 spent a year and a half online learning, never truly getting that senior experience. But alas, there’s hope; we now have a vaccine. Maybe we will get back into school. That’d be real cool.
